A WARM WELCOME TO THE 4^TH EUROLAB SUMMER WORKSHOP!
 
In collaboration with Ersu Messina and University of Messina (under the Chair of East European History at the Faculty of Humanities and Philosophy directed by prof. Pasquale Fornaro), EUROLAB – Laboratorio d’Europa is going to organise the 4^th Summer Workshop ‘09. The Summer Workshop will focus on social and cultural integration, European identity and history.
It will involve 45 young scholars and students from all over Europe. Scholars will be housed in double rooms for the duration of the 15-day summer workshop program. The cost will depend on arrangements with their University, and accommodation will possibly be free of charge.
The Summer Workshop will take place from the 3^rd to the 16^th August 2009.
Among the various activities offered as part of our program, scholars will be able to attend an Italian language course, go on tours of Sicily, and enjoy leisure and entertainment activities (sport, parties, bathing establishment, local cuisine).
Italian language classes meet daily for two hours and unlike other summer schools we offer limited places in order to guarantee small class sizes and individual attention.
The wide range of activities on offer for scholars and students at the EUROLAB Summer Workshop helps to create a truly unique and balanced program. We guarantee a well-organised and stimulating program, bringing together learning, amusement, tours and evening activities run by our staff.

TRANSFER & TRANSPORTS

We will look after you from the moment you arrive in Sicily. If requested, we will organise the transfer from the airport to your room in order to make your trip comfortable and hassle-free.
Moreover, scholars and students will be able to move around Messina completely free of charge. They will be given a travel card in order to give them the possibility to use public transport completely free.

ACCOMMODATION

During their stay in Messina, scholars and students will share multi-room apartments in the dormitory situated in the centre of Messina. Accommodation is placed at their disposal by ERSU. This position will allow them to stroll through the centre of the city, visit the main areas of the city with their churches and other attractions and go shopping. The rooms are cosy and comfortably furnished.

BOARD

Our hosts will be able to have their meals at the local refectory and in other typical restaurants according to arrangements made by our staff. We guarantee excellent food, and also provide a chance to taste the local cuisine.

ITALIAN LANGUAGE COURSE

Two professional teachers will explain the main notions of Italian language and culture. There will be two language courses of two different levels depending on scholars’ language skills and knowledge.
On the first day of lesson scholars and students will take a test in order to be placed in the course most suitable to their ability. The test is not conceived to give a score, but it is only a way to understand what their level of Italian is and put them in the right group of learners.
Everyday, scholars and students will attend two hours of an Italian language course. During the following two hours, scholars and students can become speakers presenting their papers according to the schedule published before the beginning of the Summer Workshop and then they will discuss together with the other hosts the topic of the day. LEISURE

Alongside time spent in serious study, there will be opportunities to explore Messina’s museum, parks and aquarium as well as to go to the local restaurants and pubs.
We offer full-day excursions at weekends and show our scholars the beauty of Sicilian scenarios.
Moreover, scholars and students will have the possibility to practice sport, go to the local library or simply enjoy the stunning beauty of our seaside resorts! A bathing establishment will be available completely free of charge and scholars will have the chance to play volleyball on the beach, enjoy an ice cream or simply sunbathe!
In addition, we are arranging a number of evening events to give our hosts the opportunity to spend a relaxed summer evening with our staff in the beautiful surroundings of Messina.

TOURS AND TRIPS

Our staff will also guide our visitors through the spectacular features of our region, with three trips included in our program. Our hosts will visit three of the main cultural and historic centres of the region, Palermo, Agrigento and Taormina. Our Summer Workshop also gives the opportunity to take part in an extra trip to another well-known destination, the Aeolian Islands!

PARTIES

We will be glad to make our hosts’ summer wonderful, amusing and memorable. To do this, we are preparing a wide range of activities. We will organise disco music parties to let them enjoy the summer night life here in Messina, but that’s not all! Be ready to participate in live music concerts, open-air cinema and theatre, tasting local cuisine and many other activities. The entry to the evening events is free to every host of the Summer Workshop

PAPER SUMBISSION

During our Summer Workshop ‘09, EUROLAB - Laboratorio d’Europa, in collaboration with the University of Messina, gives researchers, scholars and students the possibility to propose a talk during their stay here in Messina. They have to prepare a paper focusing on the topics that our organizers have chosen for this year. For more information, see the section "Call for Paper" in the following pages.
"Researchers and scholars, (also from Messina e near pacles)who want to submit a paper to present during our Summer Workshop ’09 have to pay an admission fee of €50. They have to fo ow the instructions included in the "Call  for Paper" section and specify their role of ‘external speaker’ in the participation form.
